Davao-based designer Aztec Barba takes fashion to the dark side with subdued hues of green, grey, and black, beaded fringe details, and silhouettes that are reminiscent of old world glamour. For his Panasonic Manila Fashion Festival 2018 collection, the designer took sartorial cues from the iconic ’60s and gave it an ethereal bleakness that moved with a certain melancholy.
This dismal chicness is seen through a grey dress in a knee-length boxy shape that’s contrasted with a black stripe down its center. It’s designed with a high satin collar and fringe dripping from the neck and the sleeves—a look that marries the casual mod style with a little evening wear sophistication.

His vision of elevating lament and woes is evident throughout all the pieces presented on the runway: from vogue separates of effete blouses and pants and skirts that gleam with sheen, to evening wear in satin and fringe, tofloor-length gowns in soft and discolored fabrication.
